There are a lot of urban myths about marijuana, and the tales have been spoken throughout the ages about its use in the biggest events in history. Here are some of the bizarre facts about marijuana that you probably did not know.

Growing weed is bad for the planet

The energy consumed to grow cannabis indoors is equal to driving across the entire USA five times. Agriculture is one of the biggest pollutants in the world, and cannabis just adds up to it by consuming a huge amount of energy.

In Italy, the traces of cannabis has been found in eight cities, including Milan, Naples, Rome and Bologna. In 2018, the researchers from the Institute of Atmospheric Pollution Research found the existence of quantities of marijuana and cocaine in the air of these eight cities. The highest concentration was found in Turin and the lowest in Palermo. The other traced substances included nicotine and caffeine.

Female are excluded from clinical trials

Women have found to be more tolerant of cannabis than men due to their continuous hormonal changes. This is why they are often excluded from the clinical trials for cannabis by the researchers as they want to avoid dealing with the hormone swings inherent in woman’s biology.

There was Ford’s hemp car

Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor Company, came up with a hemp car in 1941. It was almost entirely made of hemp plant material and ran on hemp biofuel. Ford and his partners made the car with hemp plastic which they claimed to be 10x stronger than steel. The only metal in the car was its turbine.

Hollywood was Hollyweed

 
The famous “Hollywood” sign was once “Hollyweed’ during the New Year’s in 1976. It was not intentional, but a prankster changed the iconic sign using tarps to change the O’s to E’s.

Cannabis was the truth serum in World War II

The Office of Strategic Services(OSS), which was set up by the U.S. during World War II was experimenting with the use of cannabis for interrogating prisoners. Cannabis was spiked in the cigarettes and given to the prisoners before starting investigation. It was found to be working in some cases in taking out secret information from the prisoners, which the tough ones were drugged in different ways.

Bill Gates supports marijuana legalization

Bill Gates is believed to support the legalization of cannabis. He feels that legalization can curb the illegal trades and help in minimizing the trouble caused in the illegal drug trades. He voted in favour of legalization of marijuana in Washington State in the state’s 2012 referendum. Bill Gates said, “It’s an experiment, and it’s probably good to have a couple of states try it out to see before you make that national policy.”
